Advice on Free Standing and Surface Mounted Sinks.
Many sinks designs, most notably sit on and apron fronted sinks, can be fitted as a surface mounted or free-standing sink provided that the seen edges of the sink have been finished. Many Belfast sinks for example only have the enamel on portions of the sink which are expected to be exposed after a normal fitting. A detail well worth checking before you purchase. .

Many types of sink can simply be mounted on top of a worktop. This obviously increases the total height from ground level. This can be overcome by lowering the height of the worktop in the sink area.
